Maryland State Black Saga Competition, March 17, 2001
The fourth annual Maryland State Black Saga Competition will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at the Stamp Student Union at the University of Maryland College Park. The competition for registered elementary schools will be held in the morning beginning at 8:30 am. Three teams from 27 elementary schools will be competiting in preliminary competitions. The top 10 scoring teams from this round will then move on to the finals. Trophies will be awarded to the teams placing 1st through 5th. Cash prizes of $300 each will be awarded to each member of the first place team, $200 for each member of the second place team, and $100 to each member of the third place team. In addition, trophies will be given to all finalists.
Beginning at 1:00 pm, student teams from 12 middle schools will begin their competition. They, too, will compete in a preliminary round before the top 10 scoring teams move onto the stage for the finals. Cash prizes of $300, $200, and $100 will be awarded to members of the first, second, and third place teams, respectively. Trophies will be awarded to teams placing 1st through 5th and to all finalists.
